Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you get started.

How does the online medical assessment work?

You answer a short set of questions, then book a phone review. An Australian-registered doctor or pharmacist reviews your information, speaks with you, and decides whether a certificate is clinically appropriate.

Will I speak to a clinician?

Yes. You will have direct contact with the Australian-registered doctor or pharmacist reviewing your request. The intake prepares them for the call, but they make the clinical decision.

What certificates can PocketDoc issue?

PocketDoc can help with short-term medical certificates for common illnesses such as cold, flu, gastro, or migraine, where a reviewing clinician considers it clinically appropriate.

What do you not issue?

We do not issue certificates of capacity, workers' compensation certificates, fitness for work certificates, pre-employment certificates, or anything that needs an in-person examination.

How much does it cost?

A pharmacist certificate review is $25, and a doctor certificate review is $30, GST inclusive. Your card is only charged if the reviewing clinician issues your certificate.

Can my employer verify the certificate?

If a certificate is issued, it includes a verification link and unique reference number. Each employer sets its own evidence and leave policies.

How quickly will I receive my certificate?

Timing depends on clinician availability, your phone review, and whether more information is needed. You will see available review times and status updates as your request progresses.

Can the clinician decline?

Yes. Certificates are only issued where clinically appropriate. The clinician may decline if you need in-person care, urgent assessment, more information, or different documentation. If a certificate is not issued, you are not charged the certificate fee.

What happens if online care is not suitable?

The reviewing clinician may decline the request, explain why online care is not the right fit, and direct you to in-person or urgent care if needed.

Can I get a backdated certificate?

Yes. By law, the certificate will show today's issue date, but our doctors can certify that your illness started earlier if clinically justified by your history.

Skip the queue, not the care.

Start online, then speak directly with the Australian-registered clinician reviewing your request.
